Hi, Bruce again. I thought I would give you an update on what we are doing!
One thing we are very keen on at Kwalee is to really push what a smartphone or tablet can do and to make use of all the different capabilities they have built in. Things like the GPS and the camera. To do what we want we need to develop our own technology and just now we are particularly interested in what we can get up to using our own server. As we develop our technology we are writing mini games that are intended purely to test what we are doing. However as I explained in an earlier article we are a marketing company so it looks like we have an opportunity with three options here.
- Publish a mini game or two for free, just to get our name out to as many people as possible.
- Take a mini game and add a whole pile of extra features to make it a really good full game then bring it to market for $1.99 or something.
- Forget about it and get on with developing some of the exciting ideas we have for original new games.
Use the comments below if you have any thoughts on this.
From where I sit it is probably a matter of seeing if we can come up with a really interesting twist that sets the game apart and makes it unique. In other words if we can give people real value then we should look at the possibility of them being commercial apps, then price them according to how much value they contain for a user. This has the added advantage of bringing us to the App Store sooner than we were planning.
