Games Expo East Kent 2012

Stardate 15.2.2012

Bruce and I travelled down to Margate for GEEK 2012, Games Expo East Kent.

I hadn’t been there before, it’s quite a trek, almost 3 1/2 hours drive from Leamington Spa.  Margate is a lovely little English seaside town and it has got proper golden sand which is pretty unusual in England.

GEEK 2012 is a kind of retro computer fair/exhibition.  We parked right by the sea and I was intrigued as I walked through the door to the sites inside the huge old town hall type building.  It was like walking through a time portal and going back to the early 1980’s.  They’ve put together an impressive collection of most of the old home computers, games system, games consoles, handheld machines & arcade machines.

They had a Sinclair ZX 81, Spectrum, Commodore 64 and more rare Dragon 32, BBC Micro, Oric 48k.  They even had the simple pong type games.  Others were Acorn A320, Atari 7800, Atari 65XE, Atari 600XL, Atari VCS, Atari ST, Atari Jaguar, Commodore 128, Commodore Plus/4, Commodore A1200, Commodore 32, Commodore A500, Amstrad CPC464, Amstrad Console, Sinclair ZX Spectrum +3, Nintendo NES, Super Nintendo, Sega Dreamcast, Playstation 1 & 2, NEC PC Engine, Panasonic 3D0, SNK Neo Geo, and various arcade and pinball machines.

They also had lots of games including Dizzy and Micro Machines amongst all the other classics.

After absorbing all this nostalgia we got called into another room to speak about “From Codies to Kwalee” and other related history.

The video is in two halves.

I’d like to say thank-you to Andy Brown, Dave Moore from Replay Events for organising such a successful day and also to Mat Corne who asked some good questions during the video interview.
