Games We Like

Kwalee is joining fellow indie developers, The Pickford Bros, in their efforts to encourage small game developers to help promote each other’s games.

The Pickfords say:

The big idea behind ‘Games We Like’ is that it’s not cross-promotion as such. Nobody has to reciprocate the promotion given…It’s given for free, so it’s totally in the same spirit as indies helping each other out with technical and design problems, which they already do.

This page will be regularly updated with the iOS games that our staff are currently enjoying.

   Bike Baron

David likes Biker Baron

Not only is Biker Baron really challenging, but its also got a terrific sense of humour. A great example of what can be created on the iPhone for a small budget.

   Grabotron

Andrew likes Grabatron

Immediate pick-up-and-play destructive fun. Slick presentation, with an intuitive control system.

John   Rope N Fly 2

John likes Rope N Fly 2

It’s a free Spiderman style game where you fly from building to building as far or as fast as you can, depending on the game mode selected. It’s great fun, especially on the second version where you can lose your legs by skimming the ground but still he swings on!

   Flick Golf

Bruce likes Flick Golf

One of the great iOS games. Fantastic intuitive controls and great graphics.

   Kingdom Rush

Mark likes Kingdom Rush

Excellent tower defence game that’s not too easy and not too hard, it’s just right. I love the animations, the characterisation and all the geeky references throughout the game. Really enjoyed my time playing through it, but I would have loved to have seen a little more replay value or even an “endless” mode for each level.

Peter Hancox   Zen Bound

Pete likes Zen Bound

It’s unique, simple and artistic. Everything I love in a game.

James Horn   Mega Run

James H likes Mega Run

You run… and you jump. Its Mega!

   Bag It!

Lizzie likes Bag It!

It’s like Tetris meets Tescos with really quirky fun art. You have to stack your shopping as quickly as possible, whilst making sure melons don’t crush eggs, or that orange juice doesn’t squash crisps. Mmmm…. crisps.

   New Star Soccer

Joe likes New Star Soccer

I play a lot of console football games, but have always hated them on mobile. New Star Soccer solves that by using the Angry Birds ”drag and release” mechanic for every kick. You play as one player going through their career. It’s insanely addictive trying to manage your relationship with the team while performing well to get signed by bigger clubs!

Adam Philbin   Pocket Planes

Adam likes Pocket Planes

I really enjoyed this studio’s first game, Tiny Tower and Pocket Planes is pretty much that game, but with aeroplanes. A really fun airline management game .

Evan   Zombies Ate My Condo

Evan likes Monsters Ate My Condo

This game is totally mental. It’s really fast, really polished and really addictive!

   Sprinkle

Steve likes Sprinkle

With some really pretty water physics, this is a fun little puzzle game. The goal is to put out fires using as little water as possible. The stars earned for each level for conserving water gives you a good reason to come back too.

   Spider

Alexei likes Spider: The Secret of Bryce Manor

One of the AppStore’s earliest games and still one I replay a lot! It is a great little platformer with truly amazing hand-drawn graphics and a beautifully crafted soundtrack. What attracts me to this game is a clever way Spider tells the story through carefully hidden clues in each level and puzzle. The player is then left to uncover and understand the secrets of Bryce Manor at their own pace.

Jay   Whale Trail

Jay likes Whale Trail

What I love about this game is its sheer simplicity and use of striking visuals. It uses some really nice, clean vector art and associates you with a sweet character who just wants to swim through the sky, taking out a few bad storm clouds on the way with his frenzy boosts. There is something awesome about the psychedelic colours throughout the game and crazy characters!

   Super Brothers

Nick likes Superbrothers: Sword & Sworcery EP

One of the best stories of any iOS game and it’s a joy to explore the world they have created.
